Plunger
There are two common types of plungers that engineers use; a sink plunger resembles a ball that’s been cut in half (in a semi-circle), while the toilet plunger resembles a distorted ball with a large, raised flange on the bottom.

Plungers work on the principle of water not compressing easily, thus transferring most of the applied force to the blockage. A sink plunger is designed to fit over the plug and create a seal, using captured water to dislodge a blockage.

The toilet plunger is designed to fit snugly into the pipe at the bottom of the toilet bowl, creating a seal to enable pressure to be transferred along the captured water.
